This year, seven candidates are already set for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. As usual, we will see the Big Five – France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom – and host country Austria on stage on the 23rd of May, 2015. As an exclusive novum, Australia will take part in the contest this year and is also set for the final. It is already known that Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian will represent Down Under. It is not yet decided which song he’s gonna perform, however. As to three of the finalists we already know what to expect. The United Kingdom, France, and Germany have already chosen their entries.
United Kingdom: Electro Velvet – “Still In Love With You”
France: Lisa Agnell – “N’oubliez pas”
Germany: Ann Sophie – “Black Smoke”
Italy: Il Volo – “Grande Amore”
Spain: Edurne – “Amanencer”
Austria: The Makemakes – “I Am Yours”
Australia: Guy Sebastian – “Tonight Again”
Electro swing from the UK
Great Britain wants to win over the Eurovision community with electro swing. After Engelbert Humperdinck, Bonnie Tyler, and Molly “Still In Love With You” offers a new and fresh sound – not very Eurovision-like, though. But considering that the British people do not really seem to care a lot about the ESC anymore, there’s not a lot of pressure on the duo Electro Velvet.
No more moustaches for France
France is gonna arrive in Vienna with the dramatic ballad “N’oubliez pas”, sung by Lisa Agnell. This entry is quite a turn around after last year’s energetic and funny performance by Twin Twin and their moustaches. The French entry might have what it takes to impress Europe (and all the other parts of the world that technically do not belong to Europe), even though the song appears to have been heard before…
Drama at the German final
The German national selection “Unser Song für Österreich” was exciting as hell, breathtaking, and making you not believe your eyes and ears. The actual winner Andreas Kümmert suddenly decided that Eurovision was not for him, so he gave his title to Ann Sophie. She is gonna compete with the song “Black Smoke” which is quite upbeat and underlines Ann Sophies squeaking voice. Some people may like it, some may not. Maybe with her first song “Jump the Gun” she would have had better chances, but Germany decided otherwise and we will never know what would have been if…
All the finalists set for Vienna
Italy’s representative for Vienna will be the three tenors Il Volo. Their song “Grande Amore” is really quite ‘grande’. A typical Italian ballad – powerful, dramatic, and emotional as hell. You can certainly hear Il Volos ‘grande amore’ for their music.
Spanish blood wants to dance
A mix of ballad and kind of mystical dance music is sent to Austria by the Spanish delegation. The singer Edurne has a powerful voice and is said to be a melange of Shakira, Beyoncé, and Christina Aguilera – a woman full of fire and spirit.
Will The Makemakes make it in Austria noch
The representative of Austria has Conchita Wurst’s big footsteps to follow. The Makemakes want to do this with their quiet yet emotional and strong song “I Am Yours”. Too bad that it sounds so much like an already existing song.
From a land down under
The most special contestant this year is most definitely Guy Sebastian from Down Under. “Tonight Again” is a contemporary pop song with some 80s and 70s elements – refreshing and entertaining. What else to expect from beautiful Australia?!
